Keema

Ingredients

  • curry powder

  • vinegar

  • 1 chopped onion

  • tomato puree

  • ground coriander,

  • 4 cloves of garlic

  • 5cm piece of root ginger

       (or substitute with 3 tbsp ground ginger)

  • 750g mince beef

  • 2 peppers: 1 green and 1 red

  • 1 can of chopped tomatoes

  • chilli powder (to taste)

  • garam masala (substitute with curry powder)

  • desiccated coconut

How to cook

  • Add the following to a frying pan:

  • 3 tbsp curry powder

  • 3 tbsp vinegar

  • Mix together to make a paste

  • Start frying then add 9 tbsp water to prevent drying out

  • Add 1 chopped onion and continue to fry for 2-3 mins

  • Add 1 tbsp tom puree and 1 tbsp ground coriander, stir and fry for 5 mins (add a little water if needed to stop it drying out)

  • Add 750g mince beef to the Curry Puree and stir for 5 mins

  • Add roughly chopped peppers: 1 green and 1 red

  • Add 1 can of chopped tomatoes

  • Mix together then transfer to a lidded casserole dish 

  • Put in oven at 190 oC for 20 mins (lid on) 

  • Take out of oven and add

  • 1-3 tsp chilli powder (to taste)

  • 3 tbsp garam masala (substitute with curry powder)

  • 5 tbsp desiccated coconut

  • Mix together and return to oven for 25 min more (lid on)

  • Serve with rice
