Gingerbread House

  • 250g unsalted butter

  • 200g brown sugar

  • 7 tablespoons golden syrup

  • 600g plain flour

  • 2 teaspoons bicarbonate of soda

  • 4 teaspoons ground ginger

How to cook

  • Melt the butter, in a pan and add the sugar and syrup

  • Mix flour, bicarbonate of soda and ginger in a separate bowl

  • Stir together to make a stiff dough

  • roll out dough to the thickness of 2 x £1 coins

  • cut out house template on greaseproof paper (see pdf link above for template)

  • Cut out 4 walls and roof from the gingerbread dough and place on greaseproof paper​

  • Put coloured boiled sweets in the holes made for windows 

  • Bake for 12 mins a 200 oC or until a little darker at the edges

  • When cooled, stick together with icing sugar and decorate
